Quality Labels
The great heritage of Italian local products is enhanced with various quality labels, known and shared at a national and also European level. This page contains a list of the labels you will find next to the products recommended by the Park Authorities and therefore complying with specific requirements, adding in this way further value to specific products and traditions that are already important for being maintained in such significant natural environments. PDO - Protected Designation of Origin European Quality Label The Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) is granted to products which are produced, processed, and prepared in a given geographical area using recognized know-how. PGI - Protected Geographical Indication European Quality Label In the case of the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), the geographical link must occur in at least one of the stages of production, processing, or preparation. Furthermore, the product can benefit from a good reputation. TSG - Traditional Speciality Guaranteed European Quality Label A Traditional Speciality Guaranteed (TSG) does not refer to the origin but highlights traditional character, either in the composition or means of production.
PAT - Traditional Agri-Foodstuffs Italian Quality Label They represent a calling card of the Italian quality agriculture. The label refers to all those agri-foodstuffs whose processing, conservation, and seasoning methods are recognized and have been used all over the involved territory, according to traditional rules, for a period of at least twenty-five years.
DOC - Controlled Designation of Origin Italian Quality Label After the 1992 enforcement of the European labels PDO, PGI, and TSG, this quality certification system has been exclusively used to distinguish quality wines. The DOC label is granted to wines produced in usually small or medium-size holdings and bearing their geographical name. Usually, the vine name follows the DOC name and the production discipline is rather strict. DOC wines are commercialized only after undergoing thorough chemical and sensorial analyses. DOCG-Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin Italian Quality Label DOCG (Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin) is a label granted to wines that have been recognized DOC wines for at least 5 years, of "particular quality value" and known at a national and international level. These wines undergo stricter controls, must be sold in bottles with a capacity of less than 5 liters, and bear a State label guaranteeing their origin and quality, as well as giving the possibility to number the bottles. IGT - Typical Geographical Indication Italian Quality Label After 1992, also this label has been reserved to wines characterized by a geographical designation, which can be completed or not by further remarks (regarding for instance the vine). It is characterized by generally large production areas and by a less restrictive discipline than the previous ones. Vecchio logo BIO Organic Farming Label European Quality Label Consumers buying products bearing the EU logo can be confident that: - at least 95% of the product's ingredients of agricultural origin have been organically produced; - the product complies with the rules of the official inspection scheme; - the product has come directly from the producer or preparer in a sealed package; - the product bears the name of the producer, the preparer or vendor and the name or code of the inspection body. Slow Food Presidia The Presidia support small extraordinary but threatened products, enhancing territories, recovering traditional professions and working techniques, saving from extinction autochthonous breeds and ancient varieties of fruit and vegetables. The Presidia directly involve producers, offer help to improve the quality of the products, and promote exchanges between different Countries, looking for new markets (both local and international). |

Regions of Italy
Italian-Americans in the United States are found in large concentrations in many metropolitan areas of the United States. In particular, states such as New York, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Michigan, Florida, California, Illinois, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts have larger populations of Italian-Americans than other states by national average. According to a recent United Census Bureau estimate, there are 17.8 million Americans are of Italian or Sicilian descent.
Communities of Italian Americans were established in most major industrial cities of the early 20th century, such as Baltimore, Boston (particularly in the "North End"), Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Providence, St. Louis, Chicago, Cleveland, Buffalo, Tampa and Kansas City and New York City, which boasts the largest Italian-American population, which lives in several concentrated communities around the Five-Borough area. New Orleans, Louisiana was the first site of immigration of Italians and Sicilians into America in the 19th century, before Italy was a unified nation-state. This was before New York Harbor and Baltimore became the preferred destinations for Italian immigrants.
In sharp contrast to the Northeast, most of the Southern states (exceptions being the Atlantic coast of Florida, Tampa, New Orleans, and a fast-growing community in Atlanta) have very few Italian-American residents. During the labor shortage in the 19th and early 20th centuries, planters in the Deep South did attract some Italian immigrants to work as sharecroppers, but they soon left the extreme anti-Italian discrimination and strict regimen of the plantations for towns or other states.
The state of California has had Italian-American residents since the 1850s. Since the 1950s, like many Americans, Italian Americans have moved to the slower-paced and rapidly growing Western states, including Arizona, Colorado, and Nevada.
Today, New York and New Jersey have the largest populations of Italian-Americans in the United States, while Rhode Island and Connecticut have the highest overall percentage in relation to their respective overall populations.

The idea of forming this association has come from his many years in the food industry working within retailers, importers, food associations and consulting. His desire to educate USA consumers, retailers and restaurants on
the world class quality and value of Authentic Italian Foods and to assist in building the availability of these foods.
While a third generation born here in the US with an Italian heritage, John's family traces back to Genvoa Italy.
The original family name is Fugazzi, which his grandfather John changed to "Americanize" it.
His love of Italian foods is clearly been wired in this DNA. Many years of working in the supermarket industry, two stints in the Import foods business, and managing brands that simulate Italian items has provided him with the ability to create this new organization.
I am in the process of reaching out to various Italian food and beverage companies and associations that produce their product under the long standing methods and quality and workmanship that has made them world famous.
